Creative Solutions Help Control Costs for Transportation Client
A truckload motor carrier based in North Carolina operating 1,000+ power units had a complex insurance program with several affiliated companies that included a number of one-off policies. The client's management was looking for creative alternatives to help mitigate increasing premiums and to streamline their insurance program. Marsh's local office transportation team was able to provide creative solutions. These included placing the primary coverages in a transportation group captive exclusively for motor carriers in addition to restructuring the client's umbrella/excess liability program. This was accomplished through layering with several different insurers, including a layer self-insured by the client (corridor deductible) to reduce premium to produce further reductions. In addition, most of the one-off policies for some of the affiliated companies were consolidated into the main program. Although the ultimate decision to place the business with Marsh was driven by cost, the client was able to see the value in Marsh's risk control and claims advocacy solutions, as well as its risk financing expertise.
