Drill Bits

Drill Bits focuses on emerging energy industry risk trends. It is intended to keep you better informed about risk issues that could affect the operations or purchasing decisions of energy companies. Every issue contains articles on topical issues, case studies, industry news, and events.

Second Quarter 2007
The importance of the national oil companies, (NOCs) in the global economy is undeniable. NOCs now dominate the vast majority of known traditional energy reserves and will be the major providers of hydrocarbon products for years to come. As a result of Marsh's belief in the importance of NOCs, we organized the first global National Oil Companies' conference in February this year. Following the success of this Dubai based event for NOCs, we have focused this edition of Drill Bits on the risks they face and their opportunities to successfully manage risk.

First Quarter 2007
The first issue of 2007 focuses on the globalization on the Asian energy industry. It covers several of the risk management solutions that the Marsh team in Asia and our global network is bringing to clients in support of their Asian investments. The issue also covers details of Marsh's National Oil Companies Conference in Dubai and an announcement of Marsh having been awarded China's first wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise (WOFE) insurance broking license.

Third Quarter 2006
Climate change and environmental concerns are encouraging energy suppliers to provide "green"solutions. This issue focuses on growing developments in bio-fuels and insurance relating to the carbon market. Also featured are environmental concerns arising from decommissioning offshore rigs and waste management operations as well as a highlight of the expansion of the energy insurance market in Asia.

Second Quarter 2006
Oil prices have reached near-record highs in recent months and calls have grown for the development of new sources of energy. This issue examines emerging alternative energy sources such as Canada's oil sands, and the potential risk issues affiliated with both renewable and non-renewable energy sources.

First Quarter 2006
This issue focuses on capabilities that are redefining the changing risk profile of today's energy and power companies -- security and the replacement cost analysis of energy assets.  Also included are the implications of business interruption to the energy sector resulting in a cascading effect on the global economy.

Fourth Quarter 2005
This issue focuses on the expansion of LNG and risks associated with its creation and supply. Also featured are Marsh's expanding practice in Asia, a claims case study, and how to expedite Hurricane Katrina-related claims and recovery.
